About me
My name is Vit Hofman. I build websites and applications for companies, and before I returned to it full time I spent years inside their operations.
The field first, the code second
For years I visited companies as an outsider who has to be shown how things really work. I have been in production halls, on building sites, in offices and in industrial estates where you get lost without a map. I saw how work gets handed over, how paperwork nobody reads is created, and how people work around a system that was installed without asking them.
That experience is why I do not start with a design today. I start with questions. Once I understand what a company does and what slows it down, the structure of the site almost writes itself and we are not rebuilding it three months later.
Programming since I was fifteen
I got to code long before it became a trade. Today I build complete systems: websites, databases, client portals, mobile applications and tools that take administrative work off people's desks. I run my own products, so I know what it means to keep software alive for years rather than hand it over and disappear.
It also means I do not pass the project on. I design, build and run it myself. You have one person answerable for the result instead of a chain where responsibility gets lost.
How I think about websites
A website must solve something
Bring enquiries, cut phone calls, simplify ordering. If we cannot say what the site should improve, there is no point building it.
Speed is part of the content
Fewer people read a slow site. It is not a technical detail, it is the first thing a visitor judges, even without realising it.
Simplicity is extra work
Cramming everything onto a page is easy. Deciding what does not belong takes longer, and that is what you are paying me for.
The site must survive without me
An admin you can use yourself. Data that is yours. No lock-in to a single supplier.
Where I work
I work remotely and it makes little difference whether I am in the Czech Republic or elsewhere. I travel for meetings across the country, and the rest is usually settled faster on a call with a shared screen than in a two hour meeting. I am available on working days and I respond to urgent matters outside them too.
